Notes: A fabulous print by Tomikichiro Tokuriki, titled 丹後伊根舟屋 (Boathouses of Ine, Tango), depicting the iconic waterfront boathouses (舟屋, funaya) of Ine in northern Kyoto Prefecture. These unique structures, dating back to the Edo period, were designed with living quarters above and boat storage below, reflecting the region’s close relationship with the sea. Tokuriki captures the vibrant interplay of light and color, with the calm waters mirroring the wooden facades of the boathouses, framed by lush green hills in the background. This composition highlights both the practicality and charm of these historic homes, offering a glimpse into a traditional fishing village that remains a cultural treasure.
