Notes: An enchanting piece by Ray Morimura - his graphic geometric form capturing the wonder and spectre of a solitary soul drifting quietly through a forested canyon gorge. Ancient cedar tree stand tall along the canyon; their sprawling & entangled roots reaching into the water, a fish circling below. A triumphant example of the deep sense of spiritualism & connection to the world in Morimura’s pieces. One of Morimura’s earlier designs, thus a smaller editioned & harder to find piece.
Perhaps Yakushima Island?!? - a Unesco world heritage site found off Kyushu’s southern coast, & celebrated for its Yakusugi cedar trees, mountainous slopes, & mysterious ancient forests (The inspiration to Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli Princess Mononoke!) Or maybe the waters of Takachiho Gorge (高千穂峡), Miyazaki Prefecture?
