The only building that still stands since Kosanji was founded by Buddhist monk Myoe (1173-1232); Sekisui-in houses Japan’s National Treasure: “Choju-Jinbutsu-Giga” (鳥獣人物戯画) - a set of four famous animal caricature picture scrolls. Kosanji Temple remains a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the mountains to the west of Kyoto - its courtyard further housing The Oldest Tea Plantation of Japan (日本最古の茶園).
