Modern & Contemporary Japanese Prints Gijin Okuyama - 姫路にの門 (Himeji Castle "Ninomon" Gate)

Gijin Okuyama - 姫路にの門 (Himeji Castle "Ninomon" Gate)

£300.00

Title: 姫路にの門 (Himeji Castle “Ninomon” Gate)

Artist: Gihachiro Okuyama (1907-1981).

Signed & Dated: Signed and titled in pencil to margins. 姫路にの門 (Himeji Castle “Ninomon” Gate). Appears printed by his father, signed: 奥山儀八郎自摺 (Okuyama Gihachiro jizuri (self-printed)). Circa 1960/70’s. Artist seal lower right corner.

Medium: Woodblock Print.

Paper Size: Approx H: 48.00cm x W: 24.00cm.

Condition: A beautiful piece given age. No notable marks or blemishes. Paper clean & intact. Please refer to photos / Contact for any further questions & condition report.

Notes: An incredible print by Gijin Okuyama, the son of Gihachiro Okuyama, titled “姫路にの門” (Himeji Castle "Ninomon" Gate). Designed and carved by Gijin Okuyama and seemingly printed by his father, his work offers a striking view of にの門 (Ninomon Gate) - the second gate of Himeji Castle - and the narrow passageway leading to the main keep. Featuring the iconic clay-fired 瓦 (“kawara”) roof tiles and fortified gate, the composition highlights the craftsmanship and historical importance of the Castle. A highly collectible piece, particularly for those drawn to rooftop themes in modern & contemporary Japanese printmaking. *(Pencil Signed) - Of Okuyama’s rarer, larger-sized, pencil-signed edition.
